What Is RoHS?

RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. The EU RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU, amended by 2015/863/EU) restricts the use of ten hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) placed on the EU market. The restricted substances are:

Lead (Pb) — max 0.1% by weight
Mercury (Hg) — max 0.1%
Cadmium (Cd) — max 0.01%
Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI) — max 0.1%
Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) — max 0.1%
Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE) — max 0.1%
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) — max 0.1%
Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP) — max 0.1%
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) — max 0.1%
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) — max 0.1%

RoHS compliance is mandatory for any electronic product sold in the EU or UK. Non-compliant products cannot legally be placed on these markets and may be seized at customs. Many other jurisdictions (China, South Korea, Japan, California) have adopted equivalent regulations.

What This Means for Your Project

EU & UK Market Access

Products assembled with RoHS-compliant materials and processes can carry the CE mark and be legally sold throughout the EU, UK, and most other regulated markets without restriction.

Material Declarations on Request

We can provide RoHS compliance declarations for your PCBA, including component-level material data from our authorised distributor supply chain. Supports your EU Declaration of Conformity.

Lead-Free Process Throughout

We use SAC305 (Sn96.5/Ag3.0/Cu0.5) lead-free solder paste and wire as standard. Our reflow ovens are profiled for lead-free alloys. No lead-containing materials enter our production line.

Authorised Distributor Sourcing

Components are sourced from authorised distributors (Digi-Key, Mouser, Arrow, Future Electronics) who provide manufacturer-certified RoHS compliance data for every part.

Reduced Environmental & Health Risk

Lead-free assembly protects workers in your supply chain and end-users. It also reduces liability exposure in jurisdictions with strict product liability laws for hazardous substance violations.

Leaded Process Available for Exemptions

Certain applications (aerospace, military, some medical) qualify for RoHS exemptions and require leaded solder for reliability reasons. We can accommodate leaded assembly upon request with full documentation.

How Kingdta Implements This Standard

01

RoHS-Compliant Component Sourcing

All components are sourced from authorised distributors with manufacturer-issued RoHS compliance certificates. Customer-supplied components (consignment) must include RoHS documentation.

02

Lead-Free Solder Paste & Process

We use SAC305 lead-free solder paste exclusively on our standard production lines. Paste is stored and used per manufacturer specifications. Reflow profiles are validated for SAC305 alloy.

03

Segregated Storage & Handling

Lead-free and leaded materials are physically segregated in our facility. Separate storage areas, stencils, and equipment prevent cross-contamination between lead-free and leaded processes.

04

Material Records Retention

Component RoHS certificates and material declarations are retained for a minimum of 10 years, supporting your product compliance documentation for EU market authorities.

05

RoHS Compliance Declaration

Upon request, we issue a Kingdta RoHS Compliance Declaration for your PCBA order, confirming that all materials and processes comply with EU RoHS 2011/65/EU as amended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is all Kingdta PCB assembly RoHS compliant by default?
Yes. All standard Kingdta PCB assembly orders use lead-free SAC305 solder and RoHS-compliant components sourced from authorised distributors. RoHS compliance is our default process. If your application requires leaded assembly (e.g., for aerospace or military RoHS exemptions), please specify this when requesting a quote.
Can Kingdta provide a RoHS compliance declaration for my order?
Yes. We can issue a Kingdta RoHS Compliance Declaration for your PCBA order upon request, confirming that all materials and processes comply with EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU as amended by 2015/863/EU. This declaration supports your EU Declaration of Conformity and CE marking process.
Does RoHS compliance cover all 10 restricted substances?
Yes. Our RoHS compliance covers all 10 substances restricted by EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU as amended: Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, PBB, PBDE, DEHP, BBP, DBP, and DIBP. Components are sourced from authorised distributors with manufacturer-certified RoHS compliance data for each substance.
Is RoHS compliance required for selling electronics in the UK after Brexit?
Yes. The UK has its own RoHS regulation (UK RoHS 2012, as amended) which mirrors the EU RoHS Directive. Products sold in the UK must comply with UK RoHS. Kingdta's lead-free assembly process and component sourcing comply with both EU RoHS and UK RoHS requirements.
Can Kingdta assemble with leaded solder if required?
Yes. Certain applications qualify for RoHS exemptions and require leaded solder for reliability reasons — including some aerospace, military, and medical applications. We can accommodate leaded assembly on request. Leaded and lead-free materials are physically segregated in our facility to prevent cross-contamination.
