For specialized applications, look for additional certifications relevant to your industry — ISO 13485 for medical devices, IATF 16949 for automotive.

Engineering capability is often more important than equipment for small batch work. Does the manufacturer perform DFM analysis before production? Do they have engineers who can review your design and flag potential issues? Can they suggest component alternatives if your specified parts are unavailable?

Common Mistakes to Avoid

The most common mistake in small batch PCBA is submitting incomplete or incorrect files. Missing Gerber layers, BOMs without manufacturer part numbers, or CPL files with incorrect reference designators all cause delays and additional costs.

The second most common mistake is choosing a manufacturer based on price alone without verifying quality processes. The cheapest quote often reflects shortcuts in quality control that will result in defective boards and expensive rework.
