How PCB Assembly Pricing Works

2. Component Count and Placement Density
SMT assembly is priced per placement. A board with 50 components costs far less to assemble than one with 500 components, even if the boards are the same size. 5 Ways to Reduce Your PCB Assembly Cost

- Consolidate component values. Using the same resistor value (e.g. 10 kΩ 0402) across multiple positions reduces the number of reel changes and cuts setup time.
- Avoid unnecessary through-hole components. Replace THT connectors with SMT equivalents where mechanical constraints allow. Each THT joint costs 3–8× more than an SMT placement.
