Aluminum Base PCBA: Assembly Process

Assembling components on aluminum-core PCBs requires specialized processes compared to standard FR-4 assembly. The aluminum base acts as a heat sink, which means the board reaches thermal equilibrium differently during reflow soldering. Kingdta uses optimized reflow profiles for aluminum substrates to ensure complete solder joint formation without thermal damage to components.

Custom fixtures are used to hold aluminum PCBs flat during reflow, as the differential thermal expansion between the aluminum base and copper circuit layer can cause warpage at reflow temperatures. Our fixtures maintain board flatness to within 0.3mm across the panel during reflow.

LED assembly on aluminum PCBs requires particular attention to LED placement accuracy and solder paste volume. Insufficient solder under LED packages creates thermal resistance that defeats the purpose of the aluminum substrate. We use optimized stencil apertures and paste volumes for LED packages to ensure maximum thermal contact.
